This first video answers a question sent to me by a follower through facebook.
“I did something out of character yesterday as I had a few too many drinks. I’m now dealing with the shame of it all, do you have any methods you can share to overcome these feelings?”
You’re dealing with the shame of the situation? THE SHAME? That’s the part that gets to me.
Ok, let’s break it down a bit.
A few too many drinks and did something out of character? Let’s be honest, you had a few too many drinks and you slept with a guy… so… what does that mean? you’re probably dealing with the ‘shame of the situation.’
Now, I’ll be honest. You can always go for a walk or go and do something creative to deal with the shame of the situation, but that doesn’t actually do anything real. Kind of like dealing with the leaves of a tree. The leaves will still grow back, because you haven’t dealt with the roots.
The roots of the situation is to realise that it’s not actually anything shameful in the first place. Being able to explore and try new things is a natural human need, and maybe alcohol adds a few reasons, but the real reason why you might find it shameful is because tv, friends and society tends to treat these ideas AS shameful! Especially since you might get judged by other people. The best way to get over shame is to realise there was nothing to be shameful of in the first place…
I’ve put together a cheat sheet for you that will allow you to change this from something shameful to something to be celebrated… because really…perhaps that’s what you should be doing here.
