It’s funny, but the secret of happiness lies not only not wanting to be happy but in acceptance.
Acceptance for what is and not fighting what is going on, because the truth is, life is 90% interpretation and 10% reality.
Take the sound of your ear cells dying. That ringing in your ear that you hear is the last time you’ll ever hear that specific tone. You might still hear ringing, but you will NEVER hear that tone ever again. That means you have a choice because the ringing in the ear (the 10% reality) is NOT going to change.
What can change is your interpretation of the ringing in your ear. Some people can decide that it means that it is the end of the world. That we are dying (which we are) and that life is getting shorter. It is a time to clutch to straws, to think “I’M NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER” and probably do something a bit crazy. For other people, we make the choice that we can stop and appreciate that moment for what it is (and for whatever moment is at that), the last.
Honestly, that is what I do every time I hear that sound in my ear. Whatever I am doing, I make sure to stop and realise the moment for what it is. The last time I will experience it.
