There is a way that you can help people right now, and most people don’t know it.
This isn’t through a donation, this isn’t volunteering your time, this is by being you. While those things do help, you have to start with what you’ve already got if you haven’t started at all.
With the virus happening the way it is, and the potential for new world order and many countries on lockdown it is important to consider what we already have. We have adaptability, we have the ability to grow. Most importantly, we have the ability to laugh and connect.
There are some people out there who want to help and do not know where to start. Start with your friends, your family and yourself. What do they need right now?
Friendship and support. Most of us aren’t infected with the virus, and if all goes to plan, that will not happen. For once in a very long time (as much as some would disagree with this) we are really on the same side. We can all get sick, we can all get hurt, we can all get affected.
Also, we can all get isolated. While isolation is a great method to emotionally heal and expose some of our demons towards it, not everybody wants or needs that. Becoming isolated can dramatically affect the mental health of people who are not used to it.
I’ve been self-isolating for years for various reasons. For work, for healing, for experimentation. Nothing can benefit a person going stir-mad than a friend.
Now is the time to open your heart to what help can look like, but it starts with a smile and a joke.
There are people who want to help and don’t know where. Start with a smile.
There are people out there who know somebody feeling alone. Start with a phone call.
There are people out there who feel scared. Reach out.
Your value knows no bounds. I’m not asking you to save the world, I am asking you to trust yourself that you have value. I’m also asking you to share that intrinsic value you have with somebody who needs it in an unexpected way.
A laugh, a smile, a terrible terrible joke that only you think is funny.
All these add up to make happy and emotionally healthy people in an environment where this is going to be tested.
Thank you for reading.
